Paramedic

Access: Maintenance, Medical
Difficulty: Easy-Medium
Duties: Save injured crew across the station.
Supervisors: Chief Medical Officer
Subordinates: None
Guides: Medical, Medicine

As a paramedic, your job is to save the injured, dying, and dead across (or even outside) the station and bring them back to Medbay for healing and reviving. You can even inject emergency medicines on the spot for stabilizing or healing using your Medical Cartridge Autoinjector.

Your main tools are the Crew Monitoring Console, the Handheld Crew Monitor, a rollerbed, body bags, emergency autoinjectors, Medical Cartridge Autoinjectors and its cartridges, and some topicals. You also have access to the Paramedic Void Suit, a hardsuit that has decent protection against most forms of damage, but more importantly let's you go into spaced rooms or space with minimal speed loss, allowing for speedy rescue missions.

For your job to be smooth, having the crew turn on their coordinates via their suit sensors will help you locate them if they are severely injured or dead, as long as they are on the station. Usually the CMO will ask the crew to turn on their coordinates at roundstart, but the crew aren't obligated to do so on Green Alert. If a crewmember does not have their coordinates on, your best bet would be to check radio messages, and ask around for the last location of them. If they cannot be found, treat them as dead or missing, and carry on.

Oh no, a crewmember is dying/dead, what do I do?

As a paramedic, you should be on the Crew Monitoring Console frequently, as you are usually the first one to notice someone who's in Poor health, Critical, or Dying if they have they sensors on. If you don't notice them, another doctor, Security, or even the Station AI will call out the crewmember needing assistance over radio, usually the Medical channel.

Here are the steps you should take to be a successful Paramedic:

  1. Locate the crewmember: Find the location of the crewmember on the Crew Monitoring Console, and call out the name of the person and status over Medical comms. This is to alert the Medical staff that someone in dire need of medical help is coming shortly.
  2. Check if the area is spaced or not: See if the crewmember is in a space that is potentially spaced or not. Areas near the edges of the station, Science, Engineering, or if the map shows missing walls or floor tiles, usually means the area is spaced. Wear the Void Suit and a breathable gas tank before heading out.
  3. Equipment check: Make sure that you have all the essentials you need for on the site stabilizations and speedy recovery. Carry topicals in your belt, a rollerbed in your backpack, and some cartridges and an autoinjector.
  4. Recover the crewmember: Once you find the crewmember, assess their health. Call out their health, condition, and damage taken over Medical comms to prepare the team for speedy healing.
    • Dead: Put their body in a body bag, buckle it to the rollerbed, and bring back to Medical. If the Medbay is hectic and you need to rescue more, put the body in the Morgue and inform the team via Radio.
    • Critical: If the body's lying on the ground and gasping, that means they are in critical condition. Quickly inject them with the emergency autoinjector and buckle them to the rollerbed. On the way, you can assess their injuries and give them the appropriate injections if necessary.
    • Alive but severely injured: If they are bleeding severely, apply gauze on them. Give them a cartridge injection appropriately and ask them to arrive at Medical if possible. If not, buckle them to the rollerbed and return.
  5. Replenish your resources: Once you have free time, make sure to replenish your spent resources via the Vendors or Medical Techfab.

Crew Monitoring Console

Crew Monitoring Console allows you to see vitals and coordinates of every crew member on the station depending on their suit sensors mode. there are 4 modes of suit sensors:

  • Off - Console won't display any information on the crewmember
  • Binary - Console will display if the crewmember's alive or not
  • Vitals - Console will display crewmember's health condition
  • Coordinates - Console will display crewmember's coordinates and health condition

As an alternative you can also use handheld crew monitor, which functionaly works the same way, but also allows you to move at the cost of using power cells.

But you can only obtain it from CMO and only if they can trust you with such important possesion.

Tools

While you're not required to tend people in med it would make your co-workers job much easier if the patients will arive at least alive.

Image Name Description
Medical Hud Displays the health status of all crewmates in sight.
Medipen Fastest way of stabilizing your patients. As an alternative you can use syringe with 15u of epinephrine.
Pill Useful for treating some of the damage so patients won't die on the ride to medical.
Gauze Use it whenever patients are bleeding.
